Photographer Bob Thissen, 31, from Heerlen in the Netherlands snapped the rust-ridden plant in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
Since shutting down, the plant’s unusual, derelict appearance has been used in several films, most notably Michael Bay’s film Transformers: Rise of the Fallen (2009).
Other movies include the 1995 science fiction flick 12 Monkeys and M. Night Shyamalan’s movie The Last Airbender, released in 2010.
The site now appears far from its halcyon years when it was opened by the Philadelphia Electric Company (PECo) in 1925 and hosted the world’s largest system turbo generator.
