What is a solar greenhouse? A solar greenhouse uses the sun’s energy not only for growing, but also to provide all of the greenhouse’s heating needs. In contrast to traditional all-glass or all-plastic greenhouses, which often rely on fossil fuels to grow year-round, solar greenhouses can create warm year-round growing environments using only the power of the sun, natural materials and energy-efficient design.

As a result, they can grow much more –citrus, avocados, fruiting tomatoes – year-round using less energy, water and resources.Growing in a normal greenhouse year-round can be an expensive and environmentally iffy endeavor. Net-zero energy greenhouses, however, produce as much—or more—energy than they consume
At CERES we design and build year-round greenhouses that save energy and water. These combine passive solar design with some active elements like ground to air heat transfer (GAHT) system which allows the greenhouse to provide it’s own source of heating and cooling.
Our greenhouses use highly insulated walls and a polycarbonate roof for maximum energy-efficiency. The result is an incredibly durable greenhouse that is durable, automated, self-sustaining, and naturally abundant (ie no heating costs) year-round.
