Miners Discover Giant 200-Ton Jade Stone Worth $170 Million

Miners in Burma have found one of the world’s most valuable pieces of jade. A team of government-employed Burmese miners were working in a mine in Kachin State and simply doing what miners do, searching for precious, valuable gemstones to bring to the man.

That’s when they stumbled across a monster of a stone, which turned out to be a nearly 200-ton, 14-foot-high-by-19-foot-long beautiful jade boulder.

Burma – or Myanmar – is the world’s largest producer of jadeite – and the 50 billion dollar a year industry represents half of the country’s GDP.

The boulder will be sent to China where it will be carved up into expensive jewellery and sculptures.
