Star Wars has never looked sexier!
Inspired by the creative 1940s style pinup series of girls wearing milk that circulated the internet last year, Barcelona-based photographer Manu Cabañero decided to apply the same technique to a Star Wars themed shoot. His series, “Splash Wars”, pays a sexy tribute to classic Star Wars characters such as Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader .
Cabañero is a total comic book and film geek. When he discovered Jaroslav Wieczorkiewicz’s sexy pinup girls dressed in milk, he knew he wanted to make his own version.
“It was magic and I wanted to make that magic,” Cabañero says.
After being struck with the idea, Cabañero immediately set to work creating his homage to the scifi saga. He began sketching and discussing the concept with friends.
“First we had to think about what characters are representative of the series and which are feasible to do with milk and then give a feminine tone,” he said of the planning process. “There had to be epic but sensual at the same time.”
Using very basic photography gear and his sketches, Cabañero began the shoot process with his models. He would splash them with liquid and capture the shot. Though the shooting process was fairly straight forward, Cabañero explained that the real magic (and the hardest work) took place in post production when he would combine the multiple splashes to achieve the final effect of dressing his models.
So what is Cabañero’s secret to staying sane during the difficulty of post production?
Meticulously organizing and naming layers in Photoshop was key. “But the most important thing is to be patient and positive,” he says.
This is the first installment of the “Splash Wars” series. Keep a sharp eye out for more portraits to come! Cabañero plans to shoot background characters such as Stormtroopers and Boba Fett in his next installment.
