The vastness of space is almost too mind-boggling for the human brain to comprehend. In order to accurately illustrate our place in the universe, one group of friends decided to build the first scale model of the solar system in seven miles of empty desert.

Overstreet and a team of his had to head out to Black Rock Desert in Nevada, because he needed at least seven miles of empty space to complete his mission.

The planets are represented by balls and lightbulbs, the Earth by a marble. Based on that half-an-inch orb of blue glass, they calculated the scale size of each orbit and plane.
