This is a 1965 Ford Mustang and it’s an all-time automotive icon. The original Mustang came out 60 years ago and was the very beginning of the Mustang line that continues to this day. Today I’m reviewing this Mustang and I’ll show you the many quirks and features. I’m also going to get behind the wheel and show you what it’s like to drive.

The first-generation Ford Mustang was manufactured by Ford from March 1964 until 1973. The introduction of the Mustang created a new class of automobiles known as pony cars. It was introduced on April 17, 1964, as a hardtop and convertible, with the fastback version following in August 1964.
The design teams had been given five goals for the design of the Mustang: It would seat four, have bucket seats and a floor-mounted shifter, weigh no more than 2,500 pounds (1,100 kg), be no more than 180 inches (5 m) in length, sell for less than US$2,500 (equivalent to $24,560 in 2023/24), and have multiple power, comfort, and luxury options.

Several changes to the Mustang occurred at the start of the “normal” 1965 model year in August 1964, about four months after its introduction. These cars are known as “late 65’s”. The engine lineup was changed, with a 200 cu in (3.3 L) “T-code” engine that produced 120 hp. The standard interior was available in various colors and features included adjustable driver and passenger bucket seats, an AM radio, and a floor-mounted shifter.
