This is a 1986 Toyota Pickup Truck and it’s just plain cool. This truck may be simple, but it’s also reliable, durable, and truly beloved. Toyota introduced a redesigned Pickup (or Hilux in markets outside the USA) for the 1984 model year. This fourth generation of the popular tiny truck saw an expansion of space with the Xtracab feature and engine options.

Toyota offered seven gas-powered engines, such as the 2.4L I4 (22R), the 2.4L I4 (22R-E), the 2.4L Turbo I4 (22R-TE & TEC), and the 3.0L V6 (3VZ-E), as well as several diesel engines like the 2.4L Turbodiesel I4 (2L-T). These trucks were available with a four or five-speed manual or a three or four-speed automatic transmissions.

The August 1983 redesign introduced the Xtracab extended cab option, with six inches of space behind the seat for in-cab storage. These models carried over the carbureted 22R engine while model year 1984 also saw the introduction of the fuel injected 22R-E engine.

Toyota designed the Pickup to be simple yet overbuilt where it mattered and highly capable in virtually any condition. The cab is comfortably familiar to anyone who drove a Toyota passenger car in the 1980s. The angular two-spoke steering wheel, robust controls, and simple, clear instruments come straight from the Toyota parts bin. The tweed pattern cloth seats are in excellent condition, as are the tan carpets, upholstered door panels, and brown dash.
