Jetour has teased its upcoming SUV with a captivating video and a few low-resolution images, highlighting its “forward-looking off-road technology” and a “luxury driving experience.” The design is bold and angular, featuring sharp edges and boxy proportions. While the SUV sacrifices aerodynamics, it compensates with hidden door handles to streamline its appearance. The sloping roofline and robust pillars create a distinct look, though they reduce the size of the rear window area. Practical features like roof-mounted luggage racks and a LiDAR sensor are present, indicating advanced driving assistance systems.

These details suggest that the vehicle is designed for both rugged performance and cutting-edge technology. Information on the SUV is still limited, but reports suggest it may share characteristics with Jetour’s Shanhai T7 model. Notably, the vehicle is expected to be bulletproof and explosion-proof, a feature rarely seen in consumer SUVs. Built on Chery’s 800-volt platform, it boasts a minimum ground clearance of 13.8 inches (351 millimeters). This robust off-roader also offers a climbing mode, the ability to traverse water, and the intriguing capability to perform a tank turn on both land and water.

Jetour’s promotional video showcases these impressive capabilities. The SUV, draped in purple camouflage, is seen executing tank turns and effortlessly navigating water obstacles. The tank turn, a feature increasingly associated with quad-motor electric vehicles, remains a rarity outside of China. Mercedes-Benz offers similar technology in its G 580 model equipped with EQ Technology, but Rivian has opted against implementing it, citing concerns over potential misuse by drivers.

The SUV is set to make its official debut in China on January 22. This launch aligns with Jetour’s ambitious plans to expand its lineup of off-road vehicles, as promised by Chery’s deputy general manager, Li Xueyong. The automaker achieved remarkable growth in 2024, selling 568,387 units, an 80.3 percent increase compared to 2023. Looking ahead, Jetour aims to sell 800,000 units in 2025.
