This is the Rolls-Royce Griffith Supersonic VTO Airliner concept. This aircraft has the most jet engines I’ve ever seen more than two more than four and more than eight in fact it has 68 yes you didn’t hear me wrong this has over 50 engines all burning fuel at the same time and you’re probably wondering. Why so many engines because not only was this a ma 2 passenger plane that flew it 60,000 ft to go between New York and London in just over 2 hours.

But because it could also take off and land vertically able to come to a halt right in the city center and bring 44 passengers to anywhere they needed to be without an airport and the best part is it was British so the tea wouldn’t even been cold don’t you just love the 1950s maybe there really was something in that te after all how else would you come up with the Rolls-Royce Griffith supersonic.

Ain okay let’s get the big question out of the gate right away and talk about those engines and how exactly they worked first there were 12 too jets in two Nels are what could be described as the wing tips of the triangle aircraft although the Griffith was more of a blended Wing lify body design it still had use for these little wing tips they would be able to push the aircraft up from 350 mph up to Mac 2.5 they were the main horizontal moving Force for veto operation and perhaps low speed forward flight the entire Nar cell could actually rotate through 90° to direct that jet thrust straight down.

This was augmented by 56 lift Jets arranged into double rows of 14 on either side of the passenger cabin which could swivel for very low speeed control and this was the main way that the aircraft would go up and down funnily enough the aircraft would actually activate these 56 lift engines and then turn off the main Jets as they swiveled storing in space at around 350 m hour before reacting to come to a slower speed of 20 ft a second so imagine being a passenger on board and feeling that movement yikes the resultant design was aimed to carry 44 people across the Atlantic in around 2 hours naturally aimed at New York to London routs but whilst this sounds amazing when I explain the passenger cabin you probably going to pause your.
