The McLaren W1 embodies the latest evolution of the brand’s performance principles, blending Formula 1 expertise with innovative engineering. This supercar is powered by an all-new high-performance hybrid system, known as the MHP-8. At the heart of this system is a brand new, clean-sheet 4.0-liter V8 engine, paired with an advanced Formula 1-derived electric module.

Together, they deliver a remarkable 1,275 metric horsepower and 1,340 Newton meters of torque, with a thrilling redline of 9,200 revolutions per minute. This makes it McLaren’s most powerful and highest-revving powertrain ever developed for a road vehicle. Weighing in at just 1,399 kilograms, the W1 achieves an extraordinary power-to-weight ratio of 911 metric horsepower per ton.

This lightweight design allows it to sprint from zero to 200 kilometers per hour in a mere 5.8 seconds. The powertrain is set at a three-degree angle to make room for the W1’s high-downforce rear diffuser, a key component of McLaren’s most ambitious ground-effect aerodynamic concept to date. The aerodynamics of the W1 are heavily inspired by Formula 1, incorporating active elements at both the front and rear of the car.

When Race Mode is engaged, the suspension stiffens, the car’s body lowers closer to the road, and the Active Long Tail extends backward by 300 millimeters, generating up to 1,000 kilograms of downforce. This aerodynamic prowess, combined with McLaren’s expertise in vehicle dynamics, enables the W1 to transfer its immense power to the rear wheels through a high-torque, eight-speed transmission. The stopping power of the W1 is equally impressive, thanks to the MCCR+ carbon-ceramic braking system.
