Satao II, a 50-year-old great tusker elephant, was recently found dead in Tsavo East National Park, Kenya.
The world has lost one of its last “great tusker” elephants. Satao II was recently found dead during an aerial surveillance mission by the Kenyan conservation group Tsavo Trust.
This particular elephant was one that was very approachable, one of those easy old boys to find. Conservationists believe the 50-year-old bull was killed by a poacher’s poisoned arrow.
Kenyan Wildlife Service (KWS) managed to track the poachers deep into the forest and caught them before they claimed their disgusting ‘prize’.Around 30,000 elephants are slaughtered for their ivory every year, according to AFP
