When her old house needed a new roof, new HVAC, and constant maintenance, Lillian decided it was time for a change. As a single woman, she made a bold move—downsizing from a 1,500 sq. ft. home in North Carolina to a 280 sq. ft. custom tiny house in Maggie Valley. In just two months, she went from listing her old home to moving into her new space, which she lovingly calls “The Lily Pad.”

In this video, Lillian opens the doors to her cozy 24 ft long tiny home, designed and built by Daniel Kilmer of Sherwood Innovations. From the welcoming French doors to the lofted bedroom, every square foot of her home has been carefully curated with a blend of farmhouse charm and Asian-inspired décor. She shares how she designed small “ambiance corners,” repurposed meaningful items like her beloved de ballerina statue, and created a space that truly feels like home.

Why She Went Tiny:

After decades of working as a NICU nurse and retiring in 2020, Lillian was ready for a simpler, more affordable life surrounded by nature. Selling her traditional home not only gave her the freedom to purchase her tiny house outright for $72,000, but also allowed her to pay off debt and live with far fewer expenses. Her monthly costs are minimal—just $600 for lot rent at Elk Passage tiny home community, which includes water, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, and yard maintenance.
