To be prepared in case the worst happens, our new life hack presenter Shake The Future Youtube Channel shows us an interesting way to start a car when there’s not a jumper cable or good samaritan in sight. It’s the same trick we’ve seen before but this time with instructions.

In this video, I demonstrate a way to start your car (when the battery is dead) without pushing it or using jumper cables. That’s why you should always keep a rope in the car. This will work the best on petrol cars. I did try it on diesel, but it did not work.

Your car needs to have a manual transmission. My brother told me that he saw my dad doing it, so I decided to try it out.You are suppose to jack up the front wheel (on a front wheel drive car) and put the car in the 3rd gear.Wrap the rope around the wheel and pull it.If you’re lucky (and strong), the car will start.

How does it work?By putting the car into gear and then spinning one of the wheels connected to the gearbox, you are manually taking over the place of the starter motor. By turning the wheel quickly, you turn the driveshaft which is connected to the gearbox, which is in turn connected to the engine. Disclaimer: Dont try this at home, this method can be dangerous, this is done by a professional on a controlled environment./Shake the Future
