How does the dining experience in space compare to that on Earth? We visited NASA’s Space Food Systems Laboratory at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The Space Food Systems Laboratory has the capability to fabricate custom-molded flight food containers.
Process foods using a variety of stabilization techniques, including freezing and freeze-drying; package foods in a nitrogen environment for long-term storage.
The food must balance nutrition, flavor, and safety with more practical concerns such as preparation time, size, and a shelf life of three to five years.
