Their Atlas robot is already the most agile robot the world has ever seen. That doesn’t mean there aren’t more advanced robots kept under top-secret wraps by the government, there very well might but, but we’ve been able to follow the progress of Boston Dynamics’ Atlas robot throughout the years as this thing inches closer and closer to the eventual robot uprising.

Atlas is the latest in a line of advanced humanoid robots we are developing. Atlas’ control system coordinates motions of the arms, torso and legs to achieve whole-body mobile manipulation, greatly expanding its reach and workspace. Atlas’ ability to balance while performing tasks allows it to work in a large volume while occupying only a small footprint.

In the latest clip from Boston Dynamics, we see the Atlas robot doing something nobody has ever seen a robot do before…running. This robot is actually running along at a brisk pace and it’s able to jump over a log/obstacle when something gets in its way.

The new Atlas is actually smaller and lighter than is forbearer, weighing 80kg and standing tall at 1.75 metres (5 feet 9 inches). But it can also now jump, backflip, and stack shelves. Now the biped robot has seemingly conquered jogging across grass, which means not even Parkrun is safe from the tyranny of robots.
