The Switchblade by Samsonsky is a three-wheel, street legal vehicle that you drive from your garage to a nearby local airport. Once there, the wings swing out and the tail extends in under 3 minutes. You then fly your registered aircraft directly to your destination – at up to 200 mph and 13,000 feet.
A plane you can park in your garage and drive to the airport has been approved by the FAA for flight. In this video you’ll find a presentation of the actual Samson Sky Switchblade Flying Sports Car as it drives out of a home garage, drives down the drive and also extends the tail and wings.
Classified as an Experimental Category aircraft, owners are required to build 51% of the vehicle. This process is simplified using Samson’s trained staff to educate, guide, and speed the build progress immensely. The Switchblade turns those grueling 10-hour regional trips into 3-1/2 hours door to door.
Save 65% of your travel time so you have more time for the things that matter most to you. The Switchblade is powered by a 1.6 liter three cylinder engine that takes 91-octane gasoline that produces 190 horsepower which powers an electric motor that pushes the wheels on land and propeller in the air.
The Switchblade passed FAA inspection requirements for Experimental Category aircraft, and has begun flight testing. It will require a 1,100 foot long runway to take off and will have a 450-mile range in the air.The Switchblade has two seats, it will require a driver’s license to drive it in car mode, but you will need a private pilot license to fly it.
