The SB-1 Defiant is a high-speed multipurpose helicopter project implemented by Sikorsky and Boeing. The project is aimed at participating in the military program to create new generation transports and replace the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.

The SB-1 has an unusual layout for a helicopter, based on Sikorsky’s research on their XH-59 and X-2 programs. It is equipped with a large coaxial main rotor, as well as a pusher propeller in the tail, providing acceleration.Watch the video from Skyships Eng:
Thanks to these solutions, the Defiant is capable of accelerating to speeds up to 247 knots (457 km/h), making it one of the fastest helicopters in the world.

At the moment, the project is still at the development stage, the prototype has passed a significant part of the test program, and Boeing and Sikorsky have also announced its upgraded version, called the Defiant X. The Defiant is the main competitor of the Bell V-280 Valor project, made according to the tiltrotor design.
