A W16 engine is a sixteen-cylinder piston engine with four banks of four cylinders in a W configuration.W16 engines are rarely produced, with the notable exception of the Volkswagen Group 8.0 WR16 engine, which has been used since 2005 in the Bugatti Veyron, Bugatti Chiron and their related models.
The W16 engine that Volkswagen Group uses in its Bugatti Veyron and Chiron has a displacement of 8.0 L (488 cu in) and four turbochargers. The Bugatti W16 engine was crafted with performance in mind. This Bugatti engine utilizes turbochargers, which pressurize the air coming into the cylinder of the engine so that the cylinder can hold more air, thus providing more engine power.

This allows the W16 engine to earn a maximum turbo boost of 18 PSI to double the output power of its engine.Bugatti turned to titanium and carbon fiber lightweight materials for parts of the engine like the intake tube, charge air system, and chain housing. It utilizes 32 fuel injectors amounting to 60,000 liters of air per minute pumped through the engine and complex cooling systems to match the raised charge pressure.
