The author uses a template to glue the matches on,This frame is what keeps the skull together and is the basis for its shape. With this, he now has a rough guide as to where to put the succeeding matchsticks. And at the end of this video the artist gladly sets it on fire.

Matchstick models are scale models made from matches as a hobby. Regular matches are not used, however, but a special modeling type which do not have the combustible heads, and can be bought from art and craft shops.
