The radial engine is a reciprocating type engine configuration in which the cylinders “radiate” outward from a central crankcase like the spokes of a wheel.A solenoid engine is a simplified version of a steam engine where the steam is replaced by the magnetism in the solenoid.

In this video I’m modifying and testing a 9 cylinder radial solenoid engine. Here you can also see inside the crankcase as the engine is running. The easiest way to approach a project like this would have been to use a microcontroller. Watch the video from Maker B for more info:

The way this engine works is the same way a spark distributor on a combustion engine would have worked, except it’s actually providing the power to actuate the solenoids instead of providing just an ignition spark.

The solenoid is then de-energised, and the piston can return to its initial position. The piston is coupled to a crankshaft via a connecting rod, and a flywheel is used to help the motor run continually. It is very fascinating to see how physics works, with this project we will see how magnetism works to rotate a wheel.video by: Maker B
