Plants have feelings, just like people. So, what happens when you feed one plant with compliments and another with negative remarks? Watch how we got students involved in a social experiment to raise awareness on the effects of bullying.

In honor of Anti-Bullying Day on May 4, IKEA brought two plants to various classrooms around the United Arab Emirates. Each plant was housed in a glass case, given the same amount of sunlight and water, and put on display for the students to study over the course of 30 days.

The kids recorded different audio messages for the plants, one of which was forced to listen to bullying messages day in and day out, while the other enjoyed positive audio messages and compliments during the 30 days.

The two plants were given the exact same amount of sunlight and water, with the only difference being that children were instructed to verbally bully one of the plants and verbally compliment the other over a 30-day period (there was also a recording of positive versus negative comments playing to each respective plant on loop).
And the results? The plant that received positivity remained healthy over the course of the month, whereas the plant that received negativity wilted.The plant on the right-hand side of the photograph is the healthier of the two, and this is the one that received compliments.
